Membership

"Church membership is God's plan for you to unite with other Christians to accomplish something bigger than yourself. It is God's context for discipleship, service, and fulfilling His mission."

Why Become a Member?

FBC Macks Creek sees Church membership as vital to the mission of Christ for His people. Every member of FBC is a representative of not only the church but ultimately of Jesus Christ. A casual approach to church membership undermines the corporate witness of the church and compromises the mission of spreading the Gospel. Therefore, we take the issue of church membership seriously because the Bible does.

At FBC Macks Creek, our members have proclaimed faith in Jesus for the forgiveness of their sins and right standing before God, professed this faith through baptism, and entered into covenant relationship with those who make up FBC to follow Jesus with one another.

When FBC enters into covenant membership with you, we are testifying to the best of our knowledge that you are a follower of Jesus. This should be a very encouraging affirmation! When you are doubting, when you find yourself in sin and shame, when you fear that God’s salvation is not for you, covenant membership serves as a reminder that there is an entire family of God that testifies to your salvation.

Likewise, when you are in sin, and your sinful heart refuses to repent of sin and seek forgiveness and healing, the covenant members of the church will walk with you, in grace and truth, to help you see your sin, confess your sin, and turn from your sin before it destroys you. This is an act of gracious love and one of the reasons we place so much value on covenant membership.

As a church, we desire to live according to this glorious purpose of covenant membership, yet we may fall short; but through God’s grace, this will be true of us as we seek to be faithful to obey Christ’s commands.

Throughout the Scriptures, we see the Church referenced as the family of God, the body of Christ, the bride of Christ, and the flock of God. (Ephesians 2:19; 1 Corinthians 12:27; Revelation 19:7-9; 1 Peter 5:2)

To not join a church is to, in effect, say:

- I don't want to be a part of His family (e.g. orphaned)

- I don't want to be a part of His body (e.g. dismembered)

- I don't want to be a part of those whom He loves (e.g. exiled)

- I don't want to be a part of His flock (e.g. isolated)

How to Become a Member

If you are interested in becoming a member at FBC Macks Creek, please email Pastor Ryan Hughes at fbcmackscreek@outlook.com with your name, contact information, and desire to pursue membership.

The only requirement for church membership is that you are saved by Jesus Christ (Acts 2:37-41) and affirm our beliefs and church covenant (1 Corinthians 1:10).

Our Covenant

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession
of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now most
solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.

We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of
this church in knowledge, holiness and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality, to sustain its worship,
ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of
the Church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations.

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions, to educate our children religiously, to seek the salvation of our
kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to strive to be just in our dealings, faithful in our
engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; to abstain from
the sale and use of intoxicating drinks; and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Savior.

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer, to aid each other in
sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but
always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the rules of our Savior to secure it without delay.
We, moreover, engage that when we remove from this place, we will as soon as possible unite with some other church
where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's Word.
